Upper Elementary Academy (Grades 4-6)

This is a one-day per week, 4.5-hour drop-off program for students that runs from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm. The parent is NOT required to stay on campus during this time.  All teachers have had a background check completed. We cover literature, art, history, and science with the students. They eat a home-packed nut-free lunch and have lots of outside recess time. We run this program on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. You choose the day that works best for you. Students are dropped off in our kiss-and-ride line and picked up at the end of the day in the same manner. Caregivers never need to leave their car!

  • Literature
      • Welcome to Pages & Pals, a dynamic book club tailored for grades 4-6 learners! The eagerly anticipated book titles for the upcoming year will be revealed in August.  Your child is asked to read around 25-35 pages weekly throughout the year. The reading level of the text is geared towards fifth-grade ability, and audiobook options are available for almost all selections.  Classes are filled with discussions and hands-on activities that bring stories to life in exciting ways, from dissecting plot twists to chasing down curious facts. Upper academy students often need to write a half page (note taking/free-writing) and draw during this class.
      • Spring semester selected literature texts are:
          • Glitch by Laura Martin, ISBN-13: 978-0062894366,  https://a.co/d/4Sws0E1
          • Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl, ISBN 13: 978-0142410349, https://amzn.to/44JqFYW, EVERY LEVEL WILL READ THIS BOOK AT THE SAME TIME for a one school, one book moment.
  • Science – Environmental Science
      • Embark on a journey into the fascinating world of environmental science! In this engaging and hands-on course, students will explore key environmental topics such as fossil fuels, air pollution, climate change, the greenhouse effect, food chains, pollination, the atmosphere, waste management, and civic responsibility. Through fun experiments, outdoor observations, and interactive activities, students will gain a deeper understanding of how our planet works and what we can do to help protect it.
  • Art – Hands-on Art
      • Another year of art exploration is at hand – more artists, more techniques, more art mediums.  From working through drawing and painting to sculpting with clay and exploring mixed media, budding artists will unleash their creativity through a kaleidoscope of colors, shapes, and textures in this journey through the wonders of art.
  • History
    • This spring, we will continue our journey through the ancient world. Our studies will take us around the world, discovering the civilizations of the Greeks, the empire of Mali, the Chinese, and the Mesoamericans, among others. As we learn about them, we will focus on the aspects that made them a civilization, like the cities they built, the governments they created, the different jobs they had, and the art they made.
